Respectful Behaviour

Quiet Study

The King's Library is a space for quiet study. Unless otherwise stated, please keep conversation to a whispered minimum. For group projects or discussion, Dalhousie's Wallace McCain Learning Commons is at the end of Lord Dalhousie Drive and has study rooms that can be booked.

Academic Integrity

All patrons, faculty, and staff must consider the following when working in and consulting the Library:

Fair Dealing Policy
Guidelines, Policies, and Procedures for Integrity in Research and Scholarship
Privacy Statement

Lack of regard in any of the above or any other King's Rules and Policies will result in the appropriate disciplinary measures.

Visit Dalhousie's page on academic integrity to learn more about plagiarism, paraphrasing, citing, discipline, penalties and services available to students, to help avoid accidentally plagiarizing someone else’s work.

Contact Staff

Though our staff do regular rounds of the building, many places are far from staffed service points. Please let our staff know if you have questions, concerns, or need assistance. The quickest response will be by visiting the Circulation Desk in person or by calling 902-422-1271 ext.171.

Disrespectful or disruptive behaviour will result in removal from the Library, and possibly campus grounds.

Food and Beverages

No Food

To make sure we don't attract rodents, there is no food allowed in the library. Patrons may eat in the Foyer, but otherwise we ask that you save your food for home, the Meal Hall, the Wardroom, or the outdoors.

No Drinks

There are exceptions for water bottles and drinks with tight fitting lids. However, any damage to materials due to spilled beverages will be subject to associated replacement costs and fines.

Accessibility

The Building

There is a ramp to get from the Quad to the Library on the North side of the building, next to Alexandra Hall. If traveling by car, the back of the Library faces Lord Dalhousie Drive. The entrance is on the same level as the road, around the other side of the building.

There are automatic doors at the entrance.

There is an elevator to get to the Lower Level.

There is an accessible washroom on the Lower Level.

The Books

Requesting an item through your Novanet Account will put that item on hold for you. Staff will collect it for you and you will receive a second email that lets you know when to pick it up from the Circulation Desk.

Should you require anything else, please ask the staff at the Circulation Desk. We will do everything we can to make sure you get the resources you need.

If you have trouble or concerns about entering or using the building, please call 902-422-1271 ext. 171 and our staff will be able to help you.
