To Borrow

  • Contact Library Staff between 9am and 4:30pm, Mondays through Fridays.
    • If there is a laptop available in the moment, they can lend it to you on the spot.
    • Otherwise, you will be added to the waitlist.
  • You will be required to read through and sign the Laptop Loan Agreement linked below.
    • By doing so you are confirming you have read and agree to uphold both the University of King's College Code of Conduct and the Dalhousie Acceptable Use Policy.
  • The laptop will be checked out on your Library account - you must have your Student ID.

Waitlist

  • To be added to the waitlist, please email library@ukings.ca. (Student Assistants cannot add names to the list.)
  • If you are on the waitlist, you will be contacted via email as soon as the next laptop becomes available.
  • Once you have been contacted, you will have 2 business days to collect it before it is offered to the next person on the list.

To Return

  • Returns must be done at the Circulation Desk between 9am and 4:30pm, on the date it is due.
    • Please DO NOT drop it in any return bins.
    • Student Assistants who run the Circulation Desk on evenings and weekends cannot accept laptop returns.
  • Be prepared to wait for up to 10 minutes while Library Staff perform an assessment.
  • All files are wiped from the laptop upon return and cannot be recovered.

It is important to note that while the laptops are reset upon return and all saved files are wiped, King's Library is not responsible for any files or information you save during your use. Please use discretion when inputting any personal information.

Penalties

  • Laptops cannot be returned outside 9am to 4:30pm, Mondays through Fridays, even if the Library is open.
    • Student Assistants who work evenings and weekends are not able to accept the return.
  • Late fines will continue to accumulate until full-time Library Staff are able to assess the item and process the return. These are one of few items that still accrue late fines in our system, and they will not be waived.
  • A laptop that has not been returned 3 days after the due date will be considered Lost, and a replacement fee of $2,000.00 will be added to your account, in addition to the maximum late fines.
  • Once the item has been marked as Lost, all library borrowing privileges will be suspended until the debt has been resolved.
  • You are personally responsible if the laptop is lost, stolen, or damaged while checked out to your account. Do not leave the laptop unattended.

We encourage all patrons to return borrowed laptops as soon as they are no longer needed, even if that's before the due date. Not only does this provide access to others on the wait list, it reduces the risk of loss or damage while in your possession.
