You probably already know that you can borrow books and other material from all the university and community college libraries in Nova Scotia using your King's library card. You may not know that you can borrow books from any public library in Nova Scotia and return them at any university or community college library in Nova Scotia, including King's - even if it's kilometers away from the loaning library. The same is true for university or community college books: you can return them at any public library in Nova Scotia, and they will be sent back to the library that owns them.
Borrow Anywhere: University, community college, or public library. Most public libraries will require you to register for a public library card using two pieces of valid I.D. (these can usually be from out-of-province) and a local mailing address (even if it's temporary). Find a full list of borrowing/membership policies here. To borrow from university and community college libraries other than King's, you just need to register your library card once (usually at the King's Library, the first time you borrow a book) and you're all set.
Return Anywhere: Books belonging to any library in Nova Scotia (public, university, or community college) can be returned at any other library in Nova Scotia, no matter how far away it is.
Exceptions: Interlibrary loan books: these will usually have a band of coloured paper around the book's cover, and have been ordered in from outside your library system (often from outside Nova Scotia). They won't appear on your Novanet account. You can login here to check if you have Interlibrary Loan books checked out. Interlibrary Loans must be returned to the library that loaned them to you.
Audiovisual materials: some libraries request that DVDs, CDs, and other audiovisual materials be returned only to the library that owns them. If they have a preference, this should generally be indicated on the DVD or CD case. When in doubt, call the Circulation Desk of the library that owns the material.
